Fred Benners (born in 1930) attended Highland Park High School, where he lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. After graduating in 1947, Benners attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee before transferring to Southern Methodist University in 1948. Fred Benners played football for SMU from 1949 to 1951.
